Civita di Bagnoregio is a small medieval town in central Italy that was nearly untouched by the Renaissance. Civita has also been nicknamed “the dying city” because it suffers from constant erosion to the volcanic rock that supports it. Every now and again, a piece of the old city breaks off and tumbles down into the valley below. Despite the erosion, Civita is home to around twenty permanent residents, as well as a few rich Italians who have purchased some of the buildings as seasonal vacation homes.
